Gateway This piece is symbolic of my entry into abstract painting. At the time, I was majoring in general engineering at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, CA. I was very pleased to discover that I could minor in art, and get credit for taking classes such as painting and sculpture at the other Claremont colleges. I took painting from Carl Benjamin at Pomona College. Our first assignment was to create a grid and paint each region a distinct solid color. I enjoyed this type of painting so much that I continued to paint in this style, and explored other types of grids to study depth effects. This painting, "Gateway", was the second piece I created in this class.
