Open Quadrilateral Lattice
Acrylic on canvas
36" h x 36” w
January 1998
This square grid uses red, yellow, and blue (repeated in this order) on the horizontal stripes. Vertical stripes and regions that appear to recede are painted with orange, green, and purple. Black is used to create the illusion of a background, behind a three-dimensional grid.
Like much of the artist's other early work, this painting was originally planned with a piece of graph paper and colored pencils.
